Adam's Pond

Fruits of Adam's Pond. P1000741 While Adam is away in the far north. His pound is maturing. The fish are ALL alive and well.  And it's time for a trim around the edges.

Back to the Blog...

This season's peak seems to be past, some much needed relaxation lays ahead, we hope. All is well, better than well now that I'm able to sit down, drink some coffee, browse the web and throw a post up on a blog that's looking sharp (thankyou Tom).
The seemingly endless shoveling, and deck work on the Beryl E, equivalent to a step aerobics class with thirteen totes of ice, is over for now, the last twenty days whipped me into shape, we'll see if it sticks around through the coming lull.
It was good to see John a couple days ago, sounds like they've been every bit as busy as us and then some. Looks like I'll be joining the Karluk's roster come the 16th or so, Guy just went to have a chat with the boss to see what our fate is after the contract ends on the 1st, "hopefully" we'll work for another two weeks, if not, I'm not sure what I'll do between the 1st and 16th, trying to decide if I can justify paying round trip airline fare for 15 days of R&R at home. Anyways, hopefully I'll be posting more often now, look forward to being back in Washington whenever that may be.

Back in Alaska

This is fishing...the real behind the scenes reality of it. It's all the bits and pieces, the countless hours and nuances that lead up to getting the net in the water. It's time you spend with no reward but for the possibility of hauling a boat-load in the future. Without the pre-season there is no season. Come Sunday the payback will begin. Not necessarily for Bob or I but we've only been here for the tail end of it anyways...
All is well, everyone is looking forward to leaving the dock behind for a couple days and heading out, there is a opener from noon on Sunday to noon Monday, followed by a forty-eight hour stint starting Monday noon, a couple hours running time away. Three days in all, should be fun. I've found what very well could be my vessel. The Mirage, not exactly a looker but starter boats arn't ment to be. With some time and money I could have it in the water and ready to fish by next summer. That means alot of fishing/work between now and then. Fate gets her hand as well, someone else could scoop it up before I can afford the buy in, but I'm okay with that. It would need to be towed South, hauled out and re-powered, but the buy in is only 7,000 (and its been on market at that price for two years, so hopefully more like 4,500). I'm looking into the other costs involved for now, but hope the total to be fishing next summer would fall between 20,000 and 30,000. A large bite, but not impossible...I'm trying to balance realistic with hopefull for now we'll see where this leads...

I'm not making any money now, and likely won't be for another two weeks which is sort of a lame deal, but am enjoying myself. Have gone for a couple hikes, help out on the last minute boat projects, do alot of walking around the harbor and town. Spend some time in the library, reading, dreaming and the likes,

I'll an update on how the fishing went when we get back in, check back in a few...

Blizzard Warning

Hello from South Lake Tahoe, new years was crazy, the streets were closed to trafic and the crowds were rabid, we had to run protection for Jacob on his crutches. It was Dale, Jacob, Dan, Bobby, Kelsey, Michelle, her friend Natasha and myself. The group wandered around through the crowds, went into a couple casinos for a while and just soaked up the scene. I was three bucks up for the night thanks to some penny slots and we all had a good time. Got out on the hill two days so far, but yesterday lifts were clsoed due to high winds and the impending storm. For the last two days theres been an ominous buildup of clouds and wind and it's finally let go. Started dumping here a couple hours ago and 5-10' have been predidcted to fall in the next 24hours. I guess I'll be 'stuck' here for a couple of days, all is well, this palce is gorgeous...
